Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was born on November 30,
1977, in Miami, Florida. He's an American electro house musician, record
producer, D.J. Music executive. He's the 3rd son of Chizuru Kobayashi and Rocky
Aoki. His father, a former wrestler, was also the co-founder of the chain of
restaurants Benihana. He has 2 older siblings: sister Kana (who is sometimes
referred to by her middle name Grace) & brother Kevin (owner of Doraku
Sushi restaurant). The half-sister of his is Devon Aoki, a model and actress.
He was born in Newport Beach and graduated from Newport Harbor High School with
the class of 1995 with a B.A. in badminton. Then, he attended UC Santa Barbara,
graduating w/ 2 B.A. He was awarded two bachelor's degrees, one in feminist
studies, and the one in Sociology. He produced DIY records and ran underground
concerts from his Biko room at the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative
during his time at college. The Pickle Patch was born as a concert venue. The
owner was also involved in student activism at UCSB. He founded a Revolutionary
Anti-Imperialist League Chapter on campus. At the age of 20, the singer had
established his own label, which was called Dim Mak. The name is a reference
for his idol from childhood Bruce Lee. The band came out with I'm In the House
in March 2010 as a collaboration with the Zuper Blahq The alter-ego of
will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas. The song hit the top spot at No. 29 on the
U.K. singles chart in the first week. The track later made it into the U.K.
Dance Chart & the U.K. Indie Chart, reaching the top 5 spots in both
charts. The track was featured on the MTV show Jersey Shore as well as in the
feature film Piranha and the trailer for Think Like A Man. In a HitQuarters
interview, in May 2010, with Lucas Secon revealed that Rivers Cuomo and the
singer had recently recorded a song together. Pollstar declared him the
top-grossing North America dance artist from performances in 2012. He has
collaborated with artists such as Iggy Azalea, Afrojack, LMFAO, Linkin Park,
Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke, BTS, Louis Tomlinson, Rise
Against, Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy. The artist is known for his remixes
of artists such as Kid Cudi.
